| If there was any one class of objects that I had to identify as having
a passion for, it would be rustic furniture. My earliest recollection
is early one morning in Mrs. Koontz's home on the Boulder River. She
had come to Montana in wagon in the late 1800s and homesteaded 320
acres near the Natural Falls and Lionshead. We were having coffee and
breakfast one morning prior to fording the river and hunting for deer
with her hired man, John, who was a drinking buddy of my dad's. As we
sat there I could not take my eyes off the furniture, which her
deceased husband Wade had made during the winter months out of pine
boards split willows. And so began a passion to collect, make, study
and immerse myself in the rustic tradition that, more than any thing,
brings me here |
